Practice Area Overview:
Garrett Harris represents corporations and individuals in complex business and insurance litigation. He has specialized in the historical investigation and litigation of large-scale products liability, business practices, and insurance coverage disputes, and created at Gallagher & Associates (now ForbesGallagher) a unit which provides intensive fact and scientific research and analysis services to the firm’s corporate clients on disputes and court cases throughout the United States. He also represents corporations and individuals in insurance coverage, ERISA, unfair business practices, consumer protection act, construction contract, commercial litigation, workers compensation, and complex insurance premium accounting and collection cases, and in creditor litigation in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Mr. Harris has tried more than twenty jury and non-jury cases in the state, federal, and bankruptcy courts in Massachusetts, and has briefed and argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the Massachusetts Appeals Court and the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. He has represented insurers in more than one hundred proceedings in labor departments, insurance departments, and other administrative agencies in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He has been retained as local counsel by firms in New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and elsewhere. He has spoken at numerous corporate, trade group and continuing legal education seminars on topics such as insurance law and historical fact investigation.
Mr. Harris joined Gallagher & Associates in 1986. Prior to joining this firm, Mr. Harris worked as a legal intern at the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Quality Engineering (DEQE) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU). He also worked as a summer intern at the Law Office of Randolph Fields in London, England.
Education:
Mr. Harris earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1983 from Syracuse University, where he was a member of the national honorary societies for engineering and civil engineering. Mr. Harris earned his law degree from Suffolk University School of Law in 1986.
Bar Admissions:
Mr. Harris is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and in the United States Supreme Court.
